Being an Eagle Scout is never easy as all the true brothers and sisters will attest to. The training and years you devote to finishing requirements are incomparable to the requirements you do for your clubs, organizations, fraternities or sororities. The training in Scouting gives you more than physical tests and mental tests but of character. As some of the scouts are not able to attain the Eagle Scout rank, they have also learned from the trail to Eagle Scouting. Here are some of the fundamental ways you can keep mind if you want to pursue the challenging trail to Eagle Scouting.
Even if it is just for simple drillings and meetings with fellow scouts in the school, attend them. This is an opportunity for you to know scouting better. It will allow you to gain more friends along the way to Eagle. In the end it is always good to finish the Eagle trail with what you call brothers and sisters.

2.Papers, Papers and More Papers
Papers are never your Adult Leaders’ job to accomplish. Early in our trainings, our Eagle Scout Mentors teach us to understand our advancement papers – Merit Badge Application Forms and Rank Checklists. Eventually, knowing that these advancement papers are your responsibility, you’ll learn to document and accomplish them on our own. Remember, you should write legibly in your advancement forms. Writing legibly in your advancement forms shows that your advancement is important to you.

3. Overnights, Campings, Jamborees
Aside from camping being a requirement, all scouts should experience all types of camping, from school camping to council wide & international jamborees. They are venues to test and practice what scouts have learned from trainings and meetings. Camping also imbue into each scout the sense of oneness with your group, council or region. You accomplish the tasks and activities together. Jamborees are also able to develop scout skills in leadership since you represent the name of your institution or council.

4. It’s never enough
No one knows scouting from A to Z. You should learn to learn. Self-education is the key attribute of all Eagle Scouts. They educate themselves regarding the skills, theories of each requirement they have. Waiting for what the Merit Badge Counselor or Scout Adviser to give you books and resources to accomplish the requirements will never bring you near to becoming an Eagle Scout.
5. Be like Michael Jordan
Skills are like formula in Mathematics, you need to practice them. All Eagle Scouts know that there are skills which you cannot simply draw and imagine in your head to understand them, you need to practice them. Practice of skills also develops a Scout’s ability to improvise and think of solutions to certain situations.

6. Do a good turn daily
The greatest challenge of all. As a Scout, especially in the Eagle Trail, helping others is the greatest challenge. There are moments where scouts are not able to help others even if they have the capacity to do such because they are afraid. To become successful in training, a scout should learn to at least do one good turn daily. This practice will lead to the ability of a scout to help without thinking twice and eliminate the self-doubt “nahihiya kasi ako kaya hindi ko tumulong”.

7. You must never yield
Who said trainings will be easy? The Trail to Eagle Scout is not a fairy tail trail. You need to undergo all types of training as to prepare you to be Physically Strong, Mentally Awake and Morally straight. The full duration of the Eagle Trail based from the advancement is two years and 6 months but sometimes it will take longer that planned. You should have the patience and the determination to finish it whatever challenges you might face. After all, Eagles soar above the bad weather.

During the trail to Eagle Scout, you need to stay humble and respectful. When you feel the need to show off your badges, your rank, outfit positions because you earned them, DON’T. The trail teaches you to respect the individual whatever power position a scout belongs. As a Scout in the Eagle Trail, try your best to learn from those in position and respect their views. Once you are an Eagle Scout, never assert your position so that others will follow you.
Real Eagle Scouts don’t need to say “IM AN EAGLE SCOUT” before they do things or after they do things.

9. Remember to be part of the Bond of Youth
It’s always a bond. The Eagle trail provides you precious moments and failures which help you become a strong Eagle Scout. The trail becomes lighter because along the way, you meet friends who eventually will be your brothers and sisters. Many Eagle Scouts and Scouts found their true friends during their scouting years. They literally became a family because of the bond they created while doing activities, joining camping and trolling each other.

10. Enjoy the Trail
Whatever you experience during the Eagle Trail cherish them, learn from them and value them. You might not finish the trail, continue to serve the Scouting movement, you become an Eagle Scout, the more you MUST serve the Scouting movement.
